Book Review: How to sell yourself by Ray Grose

In Non-Fiction Writing, Uncategorized on August 4, 2010 at 12:23

Are you doing your best at work? Do you take each and every job you do as an opportunity to shine, or are you like the majority of us and just get on with it? At some stage or other in our professional lives, fall into a rut of our own choosing because we reach a point where we are comfortable with our lot. This comfort is a balance between getting the job done, making sure you get paid and not letting obnoxious individuals get to us.In his book, How to Sell Yourself, Ray Grose tries to get people to realise that there is always something more you can do to ensure that when the next round of promotions comes in, that your name is at least on the list. It also will help you to ensure when the next round of redunancies arrives that your name isn’t on the list as you will be an invaluable member of the team.

In the book there are sections on image, both perceived and actual along with chapters on selling yourself to your managers as well as helping you deal with situations which could damage a reputation irrevocably. Whilst most of us are pretty good at making sure our CV’s are up to date, we tend to forget that once you have a job that immediacy tends to fade away. This book shows what you can do to make sure that you keep your outlook fresh and attractive.

From my personal viewpoint, this book opens up a new facet of business development that most of us ignore. It is to the credit of the author that the book has written is concise, readable and useable. This will be a book that can be used at any stage of a career, from the new-starter to team and section leaders who are looking to develop and progress.
