Android Application Development For Dummies (For Dummies (Computers))

Android has been part of Google for so long now, that it’s difficult for most to remember that it was a separate company before it was swallowed up into the Search Engine Giant. This corporate purchase set the groundwork for the operating system that at the moment is the only credible challenger to the iOS of Apple in the smartphone market.

“Android Application Development for Dummies” is a credible offering from the ‘At Dummies’ team that tries to give the reader a good grounding in what they need to do if they are interested in creating applications in this language.

For some, the ability to create apps has become a lucrative sideline and a way of generating some serious money. For others it is the key to maximising the potential in their smartphones – Angry Birds anyone?

The author has set out to write a book that enables application development with a minimum of computer language knowledge. That is not to say that this book will teach you a computer language. Java, the source of Android is taught elsewhere and it is assumed that the reader has a working knowledge of this. Otherwise, this is an easy book to follow which allows the reader to concentrate on the subject at hand.

The book is set out into sections that lead the reader through the development of applications. It starts with the basics of Android, the nuts and bolts of the language. With this information, it is then used to build your first application with instructions on how to add it to the Android Marketplace. The final section looks to more advanced application development and how to take your app to the next level. There is a fourth and final section that looks at the extra information that is available, such as development libraries and their use is demonstrated by the use of sample apps.

This is a highly capable book from a well regarded self-help book series on a subject that is very topical at the moment. If you are interested in creating applications in Android there are few better ways to start your endeavours.
